Upper Air the follow-up to NC folk duo Phil Moore and Beth Tacular’s acclaimed 2007 release Hymns For A Dark Horse moves away from flowing backwoods folk towards a more defined and rich sound. On Upper Air the Bowerbirds focus on creating a fuller sound with the addition of instrumentation that includes: acoustic guitars, organ, piano, autoharp, violin, percussion and upright bass. The album has confessional style lyrics that invoke the spirit of Richard and Linda Thompson and the melodies of Iron and Wine, but churns with an underlying rhythmic and raw energy.
