Similar to 2007’s comeback album Beyond, Farm finds Dinosaur Jr. drawing upon the old-school sound (ala 1987 masterpiece You’re Living All Over Me and 1988’s Bug) that made them popular with critics and fans alike. On Farm J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph unite again for an album of well-crafted songs that are as sprawling and earthy as the creatures on the album’s cover. These fuzzy rock gems, slow burning jams and two Barlow infused tracks result in an album of soaring and distorted soaked guitar, steadfast hooks and honey-drenched melodies. Farm is one of my favorite releases of the summer and an excellent addition to an already first-rate discography.
