Vancouver singer/songwriter Jesse Matheson’s Pleasure Pounds is a tongue-in-cheek celebration of guilty pleasures: women, sex and food. Whether Matheson is singing about a girl’s newly acquired booty from indulging in too much of grandma’s cooking or a girl who prefers sex at the local graveyard, Matheson’s clever wit makes the listener simultaneously blush and smile. Pleasure Pounds is a fun and rollicking indie rock album that combines Pavement’s lo-fi vibe and Jonathan Richmond’s storytelling.
