Orenda Fink, best known as one half of the band Azure Ray, has created something beautiful and haunting with the follow-up to her solo debut, “Invisible Ones.” Staying close to her southern roots, Ask the Night is a collection of melancholy, introspective songs that Fink sings with a clear, but restless tone. Recorded in her Omaha basement, Fink uses acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo, and organ to create a southern gothic backdrop for her songs. An array of artists contributed to the album, including Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock, Adrianne Verhoeven (The Anniversary, Art in Manila), Dan McCarthy (McCarthy Trenching) and producers Andy LeMaster and Stephen Bartolomei. – Written by DBosket
