Pete Bernhard, best known as part of the Santa Cruz band The Devil Makes Three, managed to find time away from his band’s busy schedule to write, record, and produce his second solo release, Straight Line. As a solo artist, Bernhard sounds right at home, dipping into blues and honky-tonk, and singing with a country twang. One of the main strengths of the album is Bernhard’s smart and engaging lyrics that ask important questions without sounding preachy. Straight Line also includes a nice cover of Townes Van Zandt’s “Mr. Mudd and Mr. Gold.” – Written by DBosket
