Jens Carelius’ The Beat of the Travel is a pleasant set of blues- and folk-inspired tunes. Hailing from Norway, Carelius’ music and vocals are often compared to Nick Drake, Bert Jansch, and Cat Stevens. But this guy is not an imitator. This sophomore release has thoughtful, seasoned lyrics, catchy melodies, and unassuming instrumentation. The Beat of the Travel contains songs ranging from the gentle acoustic title track to “The Talent,” a polka-pop song with horns and piano. The album rambles back and forth from moodier folk tunes to more upbeat, bluesy tracks that emphasize the sense of travel. – Written by DBosket
