Joanna Newsom’s latest release, Have One On Me, is a three-disc set of songs featuring her unique voice and labyrinthine writing style. The sheer size of this album may seem daunting at first, but Newsom’s songs are easy to take in and digest. Unlike her previous album Ys, the songs on Have One On Me are much sparer with less orchestration and more focus on Newsom’s piercing voice accompanied by harp and piano. Of course, her eccentric vocals and Renn-faire vibe are not everyone’s cup of tea, but Newsom is a rare bird that isn’t meant to appeal to the masses. Standout tracks include “Jackrabbits,” “Baby Birch,” and “You and Me, Bess.” – Written by DBosket
