Pacific Northwest singer/songwriter Damien Jurado is known for singing bleak heavy-hearted tales in his threadbare folk songs, but on Saint Bartlett Jurado teams up with multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter Richard Swift to create an album with a more lush and expansive sound. Swift and Jurado recorded the album together in one week at Swift’s Oregon studio. Whereas Jurado’s earlier albums showcase his worn vocals over spare guitar, on Saint Bartlett booming percussion and heavily layered production accompany Jurado’s seasoned storytelling. As a major Damien Jurado fan, I find Saint Bartlett’s fuller and more robust sound adds a fresh twist to his stellar discography. – Written by JFelton
