Nada Surf’s If I had a Hi-Fi is a covers album of inventive, varied choices ranging from the avant-pop of Kate Bush to the classic power-pop sounds of Dwight Twilley and obscure tracks like Spanish band Mercromina’s “Evolution” and Bill Fox’s “Electrocution.” If I had a Hi-Fi also features tracks by The Go-Betweens, Arthur Russell, Spoon, and others. Despite being a covers album, the songs manage to sound like a Nada Surf record – they put their own spin on the tracks by changing-up the tempos, styles and harmonies. Nada Surf approaches the 12 tracks on If I had a Hi-Fi with a nonchalance and playfulness while paying homage to the artists they enjoy. – Written by JFelton
