Infinite Arms – Band of Horses’ third record and the first since moving on from Sub Pop – finds these Southern tinged indie rockers creating their most focused and dynamic record to date. Co-released by Brown Records, Fat Possum, and Columbia, Infinite Arms was produced by Phil Ek (Modest Mouse, The Shins, Built to Spill), culminating in an effortlessly authentic yet ageless sound. The physical landscapes and locations where Band of Horses wrote and recorded the music are manifested in the album’s soundscapes. Like 07’s Cease to Begin, the band plays lovely, lilting ballads like the title track, “Evening Kitchen,” and “Older” as well as rockers like “Northwest Apartment,” all delivered with a back road edginess emulated by many, but rarely done as well as Band of Horses. – Written by JFelton
