The Brooklyn band Woods’ fifth release At Echo Lake is another superb set of psych-tinged folk and lo-fi indie rock. At Echo Lake is lusher and more polished than its predecessor, Songs of Shame, blending noise, psychedelic guitars, dense electronics, and lead singer Jeremy Earl’s eerie, Neil Young-esque vocals in a uniquely captivating way. While the band’s sound is still pretty lo-fi, it doesn’t obscure their increasingly confident songcraft and successful bouts of experimentation, exhibited here on a variety of melodic indie gems. Out on Earl’s record label of typically lo-fi DIY indie rock appropriately called Woodsist. – Written by JFelton
