People of the North take listeners to psych-rock heaven with Deep Tissue, a four-track LP that energizes and mesmerizes throughout its 36-minute running time. A side project comprising drummer Kid Millions and keyboardist Bobby Matador of Brooklyn band Oneida, People of the North start off with “Tunnels,” a pulsing, frenetic jam, and then take things down quite a few notches with the hypnotic “The Vastest Island,” which has dreamy synths and vague vocals backed by restrained percussion. The tempo goes back up with the repetitive “Summer Leaves” before ending with the 15-minute-long closer, “Over Me.” Deep Tissue, naturally, should appeal to fans of Oneida and anyone with a thirst for prog-rock (you know who you are). – Written by DBosket
