Seminal Raleigh, North Carolina alt-country/Americana outfit 6-String Drag was key in what came to be the golden era of alt-country, pre-dating even No Depression. 6-String Drag disbanded in 1998 but reunited in 2014 to record and release their critically acclaimed 2015 comeback album, Roots Rock ‘n’ Roll. 6-String Drag is best known for their blend of pop hooks, rockabilly twang, and bluesy soul but with the release of their latest album, Top of the World, the band mixes things-up a little, incorporating classic British Invasion pop, ‘70s glam rock, punk and more. Album highlights include: the album opener “Never Turn My Back on You Again”; the rocker “Small Town Punks”; the spirited “Every Time She Walks on By”; and the jangly mid-tempo number “Be Like You.” Top of the World is another polished album from 6-String Drag and its release coincides with the remastered reissue of the band’s Steve Earle produced classic 1998 High Hat. – Written by JFelton
