Toronto’s Great Lake Swimmers have been refining their forlorn, echo-laden indie folk since 2005. On Lost Channels, which was recorded in old churches, community halls, abandoned grain silos and rural locations, Tony Dekker and his revolving cast of collaborators employ a larger, more band-oriented sound elevating Dekker’s simple, refined melodies into something both tranquil and awe-inspiring. The fourth album is sparse, delicate and hushed but ups the volume and tempos into a fuller, more mature sound.
