London-based collective Fanfarlo mixes folk with orchestrated indie pop, and their new album Rooms Filled With Light takes on a more experimental bent with lovely, complex textures. Centered around Swedish musician Simon Balthazar’s compositions, which are intricately layered and deeply atmospheric, the five piece changes things up with the replacement of acoustic guitar with electric, and synths and samplers in place of mandolins and glockenspiels. Recorded in a Welsh studio in a former quarry with Ben H. Allen (Deerhunter, Animal Collective, Gnarls Barkley) and produced/engineered by David Wrench (Beth Orton, Caribou), Rooms Filled With Light strives to make sense of the modern world through exploration of light and dark, and indeed it achieves a fine luminosity. – Written by JFelton
