Shortly before I left for SXSW 2012, I came across Bahamas’ sophomore release of chilled out indie rock titled “Barchords”, and it has been on constant rotation – even more so since the excellent gigs played frontman Afie Jurvanen, Jason Tait (drums) and Darcy Yates (bass). The Toronto-based singer/songwriter/guitarist Jurvanen is best known for his longtime collaboration with Feist, both in the studio and on tour, but he is quickly making a name with his own band with his simple, pure and melodic stories about longing and loss. 2009’s “Pink Strat” garnered Polaris and JUNO award nominations, and Barchords is set to bring Bahamas to the wider masses. Standouts include opener “Lost in the Light,” “Montreal”, and “OK, Alright, I’m Alive.” – Written by JFelton
