Durham, North Carolina post-folk band Midtown Dickens began as a duo of multi-instrumentalists Catherine Edgerton (vocals) and Kym Register. With their third album, Home, Midtown Dickens is now a quartet rounded out by Will Hackney (mandolin, drums) and Jonathan Henderson (upright bass, guitar, banjo, drums). Produced by Scott Solter (The Mountain Goats, Spoon, Centromatic), the eleven songs feature traditional acoustic folk structures and ruminate on the themes of home, family, and place. Nostalgia plays a large role, from the charming fingerpicked strings to swaths of foot-stomping and clapping, to the pure, simple vocals. Home is a great introduction to the down-home folk stylings of this talented four piece; checkout promotional singles “Walk, Don’t You Run” and “Only Brother” over at the Trekky Records’ website. – Written by JFelton
