Andy Shauf is slowly making a name for himself as one of Canada’s emerging songwriting talents. Following his 2008 debut Darker Days, Shauf is releasing his second full-length of indie folk, The Bearer of Bad News. In a carefully crafted, well considered collection of eleven acoustic songs simply comprised of piano, clarinet, guitar and Shauf’s soft vocals, listeners are introduced to dark stories about fully defined characters dealing with uncertainty, questioning, and spirituality. Crafted in his parent’s basement, the intimate setting allowed Shauf to really play with the music, experimenting with sounds, hooks, measures until he found the right balance. What results is an excellent album that is sure to garner praise and acclaim. – Written by JFelton
