Matthew Ryan completes his trilogy of personal introspective albums that began with 2010’s Dear Lover with his latest, In the Dusk of Everything. The ambient textures of last year’s superb I Recall Standing As If Nothing Could Fall has been replaced with a sparse acoustic sound. Essentially, In the Dusk of Everything is a folk record that recounts the story of two people wrestling with universal themes of mortality, intimacy, despair, trust and the uncertainty that life brings. A few standouts include: “And So It Goes”, “And It’s Such a Drag”, and “The Events at Dusk.” In the Dusk of Everything delivers satisfying closure to the trilogy; it is an album both timeless and stunningly spare. – Written by JFelton
