Barnswallow is country blues musician Charlie Parr’s eleventh full-length release. Parr shines again both as a performer and songwriter on eight originals which are sandwiched between traditional folk songs taught by local blues musicians Dave “Snaker” Ray and “Spider” John Koerner of Koerner, Ray & Glover. The Minnesota blues and folk scene permeates the album, informing the content, musicians (including Mikkel Beckmen on washboard and percussion; Dave Hundreiser on harmonica, and resonator mandolin; and wife Emily Parr on backing vocals), and studio as this was recorded live to tape at The Winona Arts Center. Standout tracks include the autobiographical “Badger” about moments watching his father, and the modified blues single “Henry Goes to the Bank.” – Written by SMarx
