Lo-fi dance pop musician Calvin Love’s latest, New Radar, draws inspiration from 50’s and 60’s popular music as much as it does from post-punk and new wave, resulting in a sound that’s both familiar and new. In his first solo venture, the twelve tracks traverse the themes of love and death. Standouts include the toe-tapping doo-wop vibe of “Treasure Hunters”, the love-sick “Bring Back The Summer”, the 80’s inspired pulsing bass and synth melodies on “Magic Hearts”, and the electronic experimentation on “Echo” which recall Radiohead’s experimentation complete with computer-like vocals. New Radar offers a refreshing perspective on some of the most diverse rock styles of the past sixty years. – Written by JFelton
