The Devil Makes Three – I’m A Stranger Here

  • November 22, 2013

The Devil Makes Three are known for mixing punk attitude with old country blues, gospel, bluegrass, and ragtime as well as their spirited live shows. After three previous studio albums and two live ones, the Devil Makes Three enlisted Nashville veteran Buddy Miller to produce and add a new level of polish to their latest release, I’m A Stranger Here. Their fusion of styles and eras results in a sound that is familiar yet fresh, with the live recording creating an intimacy and immediacy. Highlights among the ten tracks include the bluesy opener “Stranger”, the shuffling “Worse or Better”, the ragged hoedown “Dead Body Moving”, the country ballad “Goodbye Old Friend”, and the folk country foot stomper “Hallelu.” I’m A Stranger Here is possibly The Devil Makes Three’s best studio effort to date – it’s another irresistible set of Americana/Roots tinged music from the band. – Written by JFelton
