Robert Ellis – The Lights From The Chemical Plant

  • March 4, 2014

Newly transplanted Texas singer-songwriter Robert Ellis broadens his honeyed twang to a fuller sound with more sophisticated arrangements on his third album, The Lights From The Chemical Plant. The new album falls more in folk pop territory than the country twang of previous efforts, with eleven expansive songs that evoke the spirit of Paul Simon – including a soulful, country cover of “Still Crazy After All These Years.” Other highlights include: the slow-burning “Chemical Plant”, the country tinged ballad “Steady As the Rising Sun”, the break-up song “Bottle of Wine”, and the weary road tune “Tour Song.” Like the title, Lights from the Chemical Plant possesses an unusual beauty and is an exciting release from a musician who embraces the varied sounds of Americana and makes them his own. – Written by JFelton
