Luke Winslow-King’s fourth full-length album, Everlasting Arms, is another polished set of 13 songs that borrow elements of jazz, country, folk and ragtime. From the jaunty skiffle beat of the opening track “Everlasting Love” to the easy going jazz-based “I’m Your Levee Man”, or the rollicking Delta flavored track “Swing That Thing”, to the Latin/New Orleans swing fusion of “La Bega’s Carousel”, Winslow-King’s versatility and talent is on full display. A few other standouts include: “Interlude I (As It Goes)”, the fine duet with Esther Rose King on “Wanton Way of Loving”, the atmospheric “Last Night I Dreamed My Birthday”, and the high-stepping “Cadillac Slim.” Everlasting Arms sounds fresh and is wholly enjoyable – it is easily one of the finest albums of the year. – Written by JFelton
