On their seventh album titled Wild Animals, Duluth MN’s Trampled by Turtles continue to push the limits of bluegrass with a minimalist aesthetic that verges into folk territory. Produced by Alan Sparhawk (Low), Wild Animal is soaked in moody reverb alongside the band’s rich, harmonic vocals, lending a dreaminess to tracks like “Silver Light” and “Ghosts.” Trampled by Turtles’ hallmark fevered picking only appears on the melodic “Come Back Home” and the hazy “Western World.” Fans of Trampled by Turtles will find enough familiar territory on the album, but Wild Animals showcases the band’s continued creative evolution. – Written by JFelton
