Foxygen (Sam France and Jonathan Rado) is back with their sophomore release and follow-up to 2012’s excellent debut, We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic. Whereas their first featured an eclectic mix of 60’s and 70’s pop, psychedelia, and modern indie sounds, …And Star Power pushes to further realms including punk, glam rock, and even soft rock for another collection of beguiling tunes. Highlights include: the glam rock inspired “Star Power Suite”, the uplifting “Cosmic Vibrations”, the piano and horn driven “How Can You Really”, the hazy “Hang”, and the raw garage punk anthem “666.” While …And Star Power might be a bit overly ambitious for a sophomore outing (we’re talking a 24 track double LP here) and not as solid as their debut, it is still worth a listen. I can’t wait to see how these guys mature over the next year. – Written by JFelton
