The Tender Things is the songwriting project of Jesse Ebaugh (Heartless Bastards) and on this eponymous release he is joined by David Colvin (drums), Elijah Ford (bass/vocals), David Pulkingham (guitar/vocals), Mark Nathan (guitar), Topaz McGarrigle (saxophone) and other special guests including Ben Kweller and Tift Merritt. Given that music has been constant force in Ebaugh’s life, from playing piano as a child to hanging out while his parents participated in impromptu rock and bluegrass jam sessions, it is no surprise that this collection is steeped in soul and rich history. Despite his lifelong musical craft, this is Ebaugh’s first time as a lyricist, and with themes of love and life, this set sees him finding a talented and vibrant storytelling voice.
