Former Band of Horses guitarist and singer/songwriter Tyler Ramsey returns full-time to his solo career with For the Morning – his follow-up to 2011’s The Valley Wind. On For the Morning Ramsey expertly weaves rock, country, and folk replete with adept fingerpicking and beautiful piano, emotive pedal steel, and gorgeous languid vocals. Ramsey has characterized the album as borne from and about change, particularly the transition from touring life on the road to home life with family in one place, and keeping things balanced. Album highlights include: an updated country version of Band of Horses’ “Evening Kitchen” on “Evening Country”; the captivating lead track “A Dream of Home”; the wrenching “Breaking A Heart”; the atmospheric “Firewood”; the tender “Cheap Summer Dress”; and the twinkling “White Coat.” For the Morning is a great album that contributes to Ramsey’s impressive solo output while building upon the best of Band of Horses’ music. – Written by JFelton
