Cosmic country soul crooner Bart Budwig (who self-identifies as a “son of Idaho”) has seven albums dating back to 2010 and follows-up 2018’s Sabai release with Another Burn on the Astroturf. Budwig’s music blends elements of southern rock, country, and jazz with soulful vocals, unique perspectives on life, and introspective songwriting. Another Burn On The Astroturf was recorded over five days by a seven-piece band inside the OK Theater and results in a fuller sound – Budwig’s most polished album to date. Standout tracks include: a cover of Nick Drake’s “Northern Sky”; the tender single “Four Leaf Clover”; the Neil Young-tinged “Rolling Stoned”; the soulful gem “Strong Coffee”; the heartbreaker “Sock Song”; and the upbeat rocker “Human Again.” Bart Budwig’s Another Burn on the Astroturf is the most enjoyable album I’ve listened to this year. If you are new to his music, be sure to check out his back catalog because all of his albums are great. – Written by JFelton
