The Last Recordings of David Kimbrough Jr. – Say You Don’t Love Me

  • February 2, 2021

Blues guitarist David Kimbrough Jr. passed away on July 4th, 2019. The son of equally renowned musician Junior Kimbrough, David continued the family musical style – a style that became known called Cotton Patch Soul Blues. Say You Don’t Love Me features the last recordings of David Kimbrough Jr. The first and only solo recording of David is a stripped-down affair featuring only the musician and his instruments. Recorded on David’s front porch in Holly Springs, MS in October 2017, the album features an introduction and seven of his father’s songs: the never recorded before “Say You Don’t Love Me”; “Done Got Old”; “Half Past A Monkey’s Azz”; “I’m Leaving You Baby”; “Meet Me in The City”; “Poke That Pig”; and closes with “Lonesome Road Lord Have Mercy On Me.” David Jr. started playing with his father at age 6 and went on to become an R&B artist in Chicago after leaving home at the age of 15. He eventually returned home and played at his father’s juke joint in Chulahoma, MS. David Kimbrough Jr.’s Say You Don’t Love Me provides a loving snapshot of his father’s music while showcasing his own blues mastery. – Written by JFelton
