North Carolina folk duo Chatham Rabbits (husband and wife Austin and Sarah McCombie) follow-up their 2019 All I Want From You release with The Yoke is Easy the Burden is Full – a tender, self-reflective meditation on their transition to an 11-acre farm. The LP was recorded live in an intimate lakeside cabin in Virginia where they focused on themes of community, natural environment, and the relationship with one another. The instrumentation is from the Appalachian folk and bluegrass tradition and is filled with fiddles, banjos, mandolins, and pedal steels alongside their beautiful harmonies. Standout tracks include: the refreshing opening track “Clean Slate”; the up-tempo banjo-tinged tune “Old and Blue”; the twangy heart and soul of the album “Oxen”; the forlorn gospel tune “I Grew Up Loving Jesus”; the warmhearted love song “This Year”; and the tender closing track “The Hinges.” The Chatham Rabbits’ The Yoke is Easy the Burden is Full is a great new album from two talented up-and-comers. Give them a listen; Americana music fans will be very pleased. – Written by JFelton
