Live is Swedish singer/songwriter Daniel Norgren’s first live and sixth album overall and was recorded during the shortened tour for his excellent 2019 Wooh Dang release. Wooh Dang was an exploration of Norgren’s thoughts and feelings about the birth of his first child and employed country-influenced sounds with psych folk-rock. The Live recording does an excellent job capturing the spontaneity and improvisations of Norgren’s live performances while mixing in a few other elements like Grateful Dead-esque jams and indie rock with the aforementioned genres. Live was designed to be released as a two LP set featuring songs taken from the past four Daniel Norgren releases: Buck, Alabursy, The Green Stone, and Wooh Dang. Some notable tracks include: the gentle take on the opening track “Everything You Know Melts Away Like Snow”; the meditation on mortality with “Black Vultures”; the slow rambling blues-tinged jam “Moonshine Got Me”; the gentle folk-tinged “People Are Good”; the bluesy rocker “Howling Around My Happy Home”; the meandering ballad “Music Tape”; the up-tempo track “The Flow”; the piano-based “So Glad”; and the Roy Orbison-esque closer “Like There Was A Door.” Norgren’s Live is one of the best live recordings I’ve heard in awhile and easily fills the gap between Wooh Dang and his next studio release. – Written by JFelton
