Charley Crockett is back with a new album, “$10 Cowboy,” due out April 26th, 2024. This follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2022 album, “The Man From Waco,” promises a continuation of Crockett’s signature sound – a blend of country traditionalism and R&B influences.
The title track, ” $10 Cowboy,” serves as a tribute to the struggles and resilience of everyday working people. Crockett, himself a former busker, reflects on his own experiences performing for tips on street corners, comparing it to the life of a rodeo cowboy – both risky endeavors with their own unique challenges.
The album was recorded live in the studio with a larger band than his previous work, capturing a raw and energetic feel. Crockett describes it as a culmination of everything he’s learned over his 12 previous records.
One notable collaboration fans won’t find on “$10 Cowboy” is a full album of Willie Nelson covers that Crockett recently recorded. While eager to share this project, Crockett ultimately decided to hold off and release it later in the year so as not to overshadow the new album. However, fans can get a taste of their musical chemistry with the recently released duet, “That’s What Makes the World Go Around.”
“$10 Cowboy” is a deeply personal album that celebrates the unseen heroes of America. With its blend of traditional country, R&B, and Crockett’s poignant storytelling, this album is sure to resonate with fans of his unique brand of Americana. – Jason Felton
