Hermanos Gutiérrez, the dynamic Ecuadorian-Swiss duo comprised of Estevan and Alejandro Gutiérrez, have announced the imminent arrival of their latest sonic masterpiece, “Sonido Cósmico,” set to grace ears on June 14 via Easy Eye Sound. Following the acclaim of their 2022 breakthrough album, “El Bueno Y El Malo,” which Rolling Stone lauded for its “hallucinogenic energy,” earning them a coveted Tiny Desk performance and NPR’s recognition as one of the Top Latin Albums of the year, the brothers return with an otherworldly offering.
Produced once again by their “third brother,” Dan Auerbach, “Sonido Cósmico” transcends the desert landscapes evoked by its predecessor, instead propelling listeners into the vast expanse of outer space, where the mysteries of the cosmos await exploration. “It’s not on earth,” shares Estevan, the elder Gutiérrez. “We’ve started to fly.”
Accompanying the album announcement is a captivating music video for the title track, “Sonido Cósmico,” crafted by frequent collaborator Robert “Roboshobo” Schober (known for his work with Metallica, The Killers, and The Arcs). Braided guitar lines, a hallmark of the Hermanos Gutiérrez’s sound, intertwine with strings, drums, and organ, building an atmosphere rife with tension and intrigue, as the brothers embark on their extraterrestrial odyssey.
Expanding their rhythmic horizons, Hermanos draw inspiration from cumbia and salsa, infusing the album with a rich diversity that remains anchored by the spiritual connection inherent in their music-making. “Sonido Cósmico” emerges as a rare gem, both inquisitive and experimental, yet grounded by the transcendent essence that emanates from the brothers’ musical synergy. – Jason Felton
