Pizza Box, the latest release from banjo visionary Danny Barnes, was championed by fan and friend Dave Matthews who released the project through his ATO Records with production by John Alagia (DMB, John Mayer). Barnes is known for his work with the Austin based alt-country band Bad Livers, which established him as one of the most progressive and genre-bending banjo layers around. On Pizza Box, the arrangements adopt elements from rock, R&B, rap, country, and electronic music, and the lyrics are full of sarcasm and clever insights while continuing to push the banjo new and unexpected directions. Pizza Box is a long way from the punky bluegrass of the Bad Livers, and definitely one of Barnes the best to date. – Written by JFelton
