The Ravenna Colt is the solo project of Johnny Quaid (My Morning Jacket, guitar) and takes its name and inspiration from the 1902 publication The Art of Taming and Educating the Horse in which a horse called the Ravenna Colt is nearly untamable, yet maintains an underlining sense of civility and dignity. Their debut album Slight Spell is hazy, southern-flavored indie rock that draws upon a multitude of influences ranging from the Flying Burrito Brothers’ dark, expansive twang to the folk sounds of Townes Van Zandt and Bob Dylan, to the psych side of Gram Parsons. – Written by JFelton
