After making a splash at last October’s CMJ Music Marathon in New York, five-piece Surfer Blood has come a long way in a short period of time since their days playing in the college dorms at the University of Florida just 11 months ago. Since CMJ, Surfer Blood has left school, recorded their first LP, Astro Coast, and made a strong appearance at this year’s SXSW. Self-described as “anthemic, bombastic, life-affirming indie-pop,” Astro Coast shows hints of old Weezer and Built to Spill with its reverb-heavy guitars and John Paul Pitts’ vocals that recall a young, impassioned Rivers Cuomo. – Written by DBosket
