Singer-songwriter Tim Schmidt, a Swedish native based out of Leipzig, Germany (not to be confused with the similarly named Timothy B. Schmit of The Eagles), takes a minimalist approach with acoustic folk that features a blend of American and English traditions. Slower Things finds Schmidt honing his fast guitar finger-picking, slightly warbled vocals and a songwriting style that makes for easy comparisons to Nick Drake and Bob Dylan. The open guitar tunings throughout Slower Things gives some of the songs an otherworldly vibe, while the production on the album has a slightly homemade lo-fi vibe, adding warmth that is hard to resist. Schmidt’s timeless, sometimes fragile songs are both unflinchingly honest and strikingly beautiful. – Written by JFelton
