Now-defunct Seattle band Carissa’s Wierd ran for seven years, creating moody lo-fi chamber pop and producing three full-length albums. For better or worse, Carissa’s Wierd is probably best known today as the band that included Sera Cahoone, Ben Bridwell, and Mat Brooke. Brooke and Bridwell would go on to form Band of Horses, and later Brooke founded Grand Archives. They’ll Only Miss You When You Leave: Songs 1996-2003, put out by Hardly Art, covers the band’s three releases plus two albums released after their breakup. Although their songs never broke out to a large audience, listening to this album instantly takes you back to the late ‘90s/early ‘00s with its dark, melodic sound. The tracks on this compilation give a great overview of Brooke and Jenn Ghetto’s (the core members of Carissa’s Wierd) orchestral indie-folk style. – Written by DBosket
