The members of Canadian psych-rock band Black Mountain have stayed busy since the release of 08’s In the Future with their side projects like Stephen McBean’s (vocals, guitar) Pink Mountaintops and Amber Webber’s (vocals, keyboard) Lightning Dust. Their third album Wilderness Heart, which was recorded in a quick four months in Seattle with Randall Dunn (Sunn 0)), Boris) and produced in L.A. by D. Sardy (LCD Soundsystem, Spoon) is admittedly their most metal and folk record to date, and it works. The ten tracks rock with a palpable energy, their sound more vocally focused than riff-oriented this time around, making for a tight, polished effort. – Written by JFelton
