Catching a Tiger – Lissie Maurus’ full length debut takes up where 09’s Why You Runnin’ EP left off. While an eclectic mix of blues, pop, country and folk, the album showcases the indie singer/songwriter’s gravelly voice akin to Stevie Nicks. Capitalizing on the web buzz created with covers of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance”, Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” and country classics like Hank Williams’ “Wedding Bells” Lissie released Catching a Tiger in Britain (where she has a large fan base) after recording with Jacquire King (producer, Kings of Leon) in Nashville. Notable tracks include the gorgeous and haunting “Everywhere I Go’’, country-radio-ready “Cuckoo”, and the Brit pop/wall of sound take on “Stranger”. Catching a Tiger is a good effort by a versatile musician who isn’t afraid of classic songwriting, instrumentation, and professional production. – Written by JFelton
