The new EP Sometimes the Blues Is Just a Passing Bird by Sweden’s The Tallest Man on Earth (a.k.a. singer/songwriter Kristian Matsson) follows the substance and style found on the full-length The Wild Hunt released earlier this year. While many EP’s that follow the release of an LP collect extra session tracks, alternate variations of songs or experiments, these five austere folk songs were written on the road and recorded during a recent break from promotional touring. Matsson takes advantage of the EP format to explore a melancholy tone and mood with his electric guitar, resulting in songs that are slightly darker, more wounded, muted, and meditative than those found on The Wild Hunt. Check out the standout track “Like the Wheel” which Matsson performed as the closer at many of his live shows since the release of the LP, quickly becoming a fan favorite. – Written by JFelton
