Winnipeg country-roots singer/songwriter Del Barber is on target to reach his ambitious goal of releasing four albums in four years with album #2, Love Songs for the Last 20. Much like influences and contemporaries Townes Van Zandt, Greg Brown and John Prine, Barber’s sound is firmly based in traditional country music instrumentation, with his bright, twangy voice crooning with love, desire, cynicism and at times, a bitting sense of humor. Love Songs for the Last 20 is about location, place and history – the stories that inhabit the places we’ve been – as heard on standout tracks “Chicago” and “Thunder Bay.” Love Songs for the Last 20 is an enjoyable album full of sharp and witty realism and holds great promise for the next two in the series. – Written by JFelton
