Swedish band Junip was formed in the late ’90s by José González (guitar, vocals), Elias Araya (drums) and Tobias Winterkorn (organ, moog). While González saw his solo career take off, Junip continued to play and record as schedules allowed, however Fields is the first time all the members focused all their efforts on the band alone. The songs on Fields are dynamic and melodic, showing off Junip’s sound which is characterized by soft finger-picking and González’s whispery vocals with the addition of organs, synths and drums. Standout tracks include “Always”, “Rope & Summit,” and “It’s Alright,” and a stellar cover of Springsteen’s “The Ghost of Tom Joad”. – Written by JFelton
