Following a move from Ontario to Nova Scotia, singer/songwriter/guitarist Gianna Lauren released her sophomore album, Some Move Closer, Some Move On. Through melody laden ambient indie rock, Lauren sings about the process of moving and belonging – adapting, longing, and displacement. Despite the atmospheric shoegaze vibe, the eleven songs show a diverse range, from an a capella hymn recorded in an abandoned warehouse to rhythmic gypsy jazz. Often eliciting comparison to better established contemporaries Julie Doiron and Cat Power, Lauren proves with Some Move Closer, Some Move On that she is an artist to keep your eye on. – Written by JFelton
