The new Salem, OR based band Foxtrot (not to be confused with the Norwegian prog rock group) self-released their debut From Wilderness to Wonderland. The album showcases unusual yet mesmerizing soundscapes characterized by multiple layers of instrumentation and vocals, which both blend and at times compete to be heard. Steeped in regional influences like indie powerhouses Built to Spill, Modest Mouse, and Pavement, Foxtrot plays at local bars and nightspots throughout the Northwest. Notable tracks include “Eire” and “Webster Goes Surfing” with its driving guitar riffs, harmonic refrain pleading “I want to get to know you” and intermittent atonality and use of minor chords. – Written by JFelton
