Hailing from Portsmouth, NH is the talented Nat Baldwin, bassist for Dirty Projectors and contributor to Vampire Weekend’s wildly successful Contra, and his fifth solo full length People Changes is a good jazz inspired album featuring Baldwin on double bass and vocals. Baldwin called upon his training with free jazz virtuoso Anthony Braxton and gathered his musician friends together in the studio to record the seven tracks. People Changes opens with a cover of Arthur Russell’s “A Little Lost” which was originally composed for the cello, and is followed by striking tracks such as “The Same Thing” and “Lifted.” People Changes is an exploration of dissonant soundscapes and noise; it is not for everyone, but if you seek new sounds and are open to a unique listening experience, then check out Nat Baldwin’s latest. – Written by SMarx
