Willy Gantrim deftly conjures up another era with his fantastic album, Willy Gantrim Sings Country, Blues, and Ballads. As the title suggests, the 12 track solo debut hosts Delta Blues, country and some folk originals by the songwriter/musician featuring slide guitar and his deep, slightly nasal vocals. The troubadour’s sound has been compared to Dylan and The Tallest Man on Earth, yet his take is not imitation but an authentic inhabitation all his own. The Houston native/Brooklyn transplant can been seen playing local shows with his band, The Phantoms, or even doing a street busking stint. For those outside the borough, catch Gantrim on his bandcamp site for this and his newest release, My Songs & Others. – Written by JFelton
