Brooklyn based band The Wiyos’ self-titled third release is comprised of original songs inspired by the old-time stringbands, ragtime era blues and jazz, jugbands and vaudeville and medicine shows of the 20’s/30’s and 4 period standards. The Wiyos write songs that are influenced by both the music from the Appalachian Mountain regions and New York City, incorporating the refined sounds of Django Reinhardt and Fats Waller with the primitive country zeal of Doc Watson and Mississippi John Hurt. The Wiyos’ music draws from the vaudeville era when performers were spirited entertainers and accomplished songwriters and instrumentalists who performed and crafted music simply for the love of what they do; likewise the passion of The Wiyos shines through.
