Believers – the third solo album of A.A. Bondy – is a densely atmospheric, dream-induced gem. The former frontman of grunge band Verbena has outdone himself again with this latest release. In the course of ten songs (though “123 Dupuy Street” plays more like an interlude), Bondy explores ambient soundscapes with beautifully arranged instrumentation and darkly introspective lyrics. As on When the Devil’s Loose, Bondy maintains an intimate tone while surrounded by a fuller band sound. Believers is hypnotic, enigmatic and inspiring; the album is well worth repeated listens, especially standouts “Skull & Bones”, “Surfer King”, and “The Twist.” – Written by SMarx
